Biography

Graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts. Currently studying at the Toho Gakuen Conservatory (class of Professor T. Shimizu) and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, under Professor B.I. Kushnir. A participant of various international music festivals, he has performed in Spain, Italy, Austria, Romania, China, Taiwan, the USA, and Japan with the Altomonte Orchestra, Vienna Camerata Orphica, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Brașov Philharmonic Orchestra, and others. He has collaborated with conductors including J. Kazufumi, F.-P. Deschamps, J. Latham-Koenig, K. Koichiro, and H. Mito.

Over the years, he has been awarded special prizes and has placed in prestigious international competitions, such as the Wronski International Violin Competition (Poland), the International Violin Competition in Gifu (Japan), the L. van Beethoven International Competition (Austria), the Spivakov International Violin Competition (Russia), the Rodolfo Lipizer International Violin Competition, the Rome Classic Violin Competition (Italy), and the Classic Violin Olympus International Competition (UAE).

In 2025, Issei Kurihara won Second Prize at the Victor Tretyakov International Violin Competition in Krasnoyarsk (Russia).
