Biography
Currently the Resident Conductor of the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, Yao-Yu Wu holds artistic responsibilities at the level of a music director. He is a multiple prize-winner at major international competitions, including a triple laureate at the Besançon International Conductors’ Competition, where he received the First Prize, the Orchestra Prize, and the Audience Prize.
With the KSO, he has led landmark projects, including major premieres and international tours. Through focused rehearsals and curated programming, he has contributed to the orchestra’s rising technical standards and enhanced artistic profile.
His engagements across Europe and Asia include appearances with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lorraine, Taiwan’s National Symphony Orchestra, and other leading ensembles. He has collaborated with renowned soloists such as Rudolf Buchbinder, Alexei Volodin, Lang Lang, Daniel Müller-Schott, and Ilya Gringolts.
An active opera conductor, his recent productions include Tosca, La Bohème, and Rigoletto.
Educated in Taipei and Vienna (University of Music and Performing Arts), Wu is regarded as one of Taiwan’s most promising conductors of his generation.
